Hey there, another short one this week, partly due to business. (We’re doing a live Shutdown Fullcast in like three hours, for instance.)
First, thank you to everyone who’s participated in my lil football-season promo drive for my lil objectively good book, Hell Is a World Without You, available everywhere right now, one way or another. A month ago, I set a goal of 1,000 new requests for libraries to carry it, in addition to the many libraries that already were, and you’ve already gotten us two-thirds of the way to that goal. Thank you!
The original plan for the end of this lil stunt: After hitting 1,000, I was going to donate $1,000 to a charity selected by a randomly chosen donor. Well, new plan, in light of the ongoing situation in Appalachia: I went ahead and did that before we hit 1,000.1
I’ll probably do another one of these lil promo things at some point, with a different goal in mind at that time. If you’d like to still move us toward 1,000 new requests, I’d ofc still appreciate that! See below for quick instructions.2
And now, one of the most middle-heavy college football schedules I’ve ever seen:
Before the season, TV people penciled in Clemson-FSU as this weekend’s automatic headliner. But thanks to the Noles’ earnest efforts to get kicked out of the ACC, you could argue for one of about 10 different games as being the biggest.
The answer: It’ll depend on which favored teams end up eating shit. 😃
I didn’t notice this until after getting the donation receipt, but: Even within the original rules of the lil promo event, this is a fitting destination. Among big states, North Carolina ranks #1 in HIAWWY library requests per capita over the past month, followed by Illinois, Michigan, and Georgia. Leading the three other weight classes: Colorado, Iowa, and DC, plus the current intercontinental champion, Canada. Thank you all.
It’s easy:
Enter Hell Is a World Without You in your library’s request form, probably online. For high success chances (based on data I can see, I’d guesstimate about 200 libraries have already fulfilled the past month’s 656 requests, in addition to those that have added it to next quarter’s budget or whatever), include the link to this review and/or the book’s Wikipedia page.
Let me know (jasonkirkbook at gmail.com or comment below or whatever) which library you asked.
If it’s already in your town’s library, how about your alma mater’s, your county’s, etc.? If they already have the audiobook, how about print, etc.?
If the form wants an ISBN: hardcover is 9781735492650, ebook is 9781735492629, and audiobook is 9781735492667. Pick whichever. If it asks for genre: adult fiction.
Love this promo effort, Jason! So impressed.
I'm sure I'm not the first, but I requested it for Chicago Public Library
