This week’s College Football Watch Grid is below.
[Business voice] To the dozens of readers who have pledged thousands of total dollars to this Substack, thank you for the offer! My posts here will remain free, though. For this football season, here’s what I’m requesting from each subscriber instead (you guessed it, more or less):
I want my book (which is, as noted, good) to be acquired by 1,000 more libraries. Based on what I’ve personally been told by hundreds and hundreds of its readers (that it helped them finally understand their religious neighbors, finally make peace with their younger selves, and/or finally remember some emo bands), there are people who would benefit from stumbling upon it years from now — and libraries are the best avenue toward that.
As a niche publisher, we rely on word-of-mouth rather than on thunderous commands from powerful offices. So I could use your help. And I’ll do my part! More on that in a sec.
If you’ve enjoyed my work over the years, I’m asking for five minutes today:
Find your library’s request form, likely online. (If you’ve already seen the book in your local library, how about your alma mater’s library, state system at large, etc.? If they have the ebook, what about the audiobook, etc.?)
Ask them to add Hell Is a World Without You. (If the form wants an ISBN: hardcover is 9781735492650, ebook is 9781735492629, and audiobook is 9781735492667. Pick whichever. If it asks for genre: fiction, adult fiction, contemporary fiction, etc.)
For likely success, include the link to this review.
(Don’t write goofs like “Fullcast sent me.” You and I are laughing together because we know somebody would’ve done that.)
Let me know (jasonkirkbook@gmail.com or DM or comment below or whatever) which library you asked.
Considering the number of people who read the Watch Grid each week (and have listened to the Shutdown Fullcast over the last decade-plus and so forth), the goal is doable.
Because we love competition around here, I’ll track which states produce the most requests per capita. And once we hit our goal of 1,000 new requests, I’ll select one of you at random and send $1,000 to the charity of your choice. Feel free to note your charity now, or just let me know later if chosen. (This is in addition to the $50,000 this book raised in February for the Trevor Project, a number I’m almost done bragging about. Nowhere near almost, though.)
And now, sports:
Absolutely, I’m gonna bother you each week in this free email (which will usually otherwise be somewhat on-topic) until you do the library thing, so you might as well do it today. Thank you! 😃
Requested DC Public Library in Tenleytown!
Requested that Enoch Pratt Library (Baltimore City) get the hardcover (they already have the audiobook and ebook)
